Complete and unabridged, with 99 full-page plates by Richard Wilson, J. M. W. Turner and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. A disinherited knight rides into a tournament in the England of Richard's captivity, where Saxon and Norman still hate each other and a Jewish moneylender's daughter is worth more to the plot than the heroine. Scott invented most of what people now picture as the Middle Ages in this one book, and gave Robin Hood back to English readers as Locksley. Its 120 original illustrations have been carefully restored and coloured for this edition.
