In rural England, an American traveller discovers the charm of traditional Christmas celebrations when he is invited to spend the festive season at a welcoming country manor. Surrounded by family gatherings, Christmas carols, feasts, and cherished customs, he enters a world where hospitality and shared joy seem to withstand the passage of time. Every encounter and every tradition evoke a Christmas filled with warmth, nostalgia, and life's simple pleasures. In Old Christmas, Washington Irving brings the Christmas traditions of old England to life with warmth and gentle humour. Through elegant and evocative prose, the author celebrates the spirit of Christmas as a bond between generations and an opportunity to rediscover generosity, togetherness, and the memories of a world that is beginning to fade away.
